History

History of Informatics UNPAR is inseparable from history of Faculty of Science (Fakultas Sains), in which this study program resides. In 1993, UNPAR gave birth to two new faculties, namely Fakultas Teknologi Industri (now Fakultas Teknologi Rekayasa) and Fakultas Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam (FMIPA, now Fakultas Sains). During its first days, FMIPA hosted two majors, namely Mathematics and Physics. Each major managed one bachelor study program.

In 1996, FMIPA gave birth to Program Studi Sarjana Ilmu Komputer (Bachelor of Computer Science), which became the origin for Informatics UNPAR. In the early days, such program was directly managed by the faculty. Only in its second year faculty formally created the computer science major with a major lead and subsequently the management of computer science study program under the major lead of computer science.

The name of major and study program of computer science changed into Teknik Informatika in 2008. This change was the result of government rule, which stated that there is no bachelor study program for the field of computer science. Along with that changes, the faculty changed its name as well to match the three majors under it. In 2009 FMIPA changed its name to Fakultas Teknologi Informasi dan Sains, and in 2024 changed again to Fakultas Sains.

Informatics UNPAR has undergone four times BAN-PT accreditations and one LAM INFOKOM accreditations. The latest accreditation was in 2025, with the result of EXCELLENT, according to LAM INFOKOM decree No. 235/SK/LAM-INFOKOM/Ak/S/VIII/2025. The status of such accreditation is valid until 18th of August 2030.
