Informatics UNPAR students performed once again. This time, Vico Pratama, William Arthur and Jerrel Marvel secured first place in Best Algorithm, in Play IT 2024. The competition was held by Politeknik Negeri Malang on 1-3 November 2024.

In the preliminary round, participants proposed their idea to build software that make use of artificial intelligence. The proposed software must be able to solve real problems and support one of the seventeen aspects in the Sustainable Development Goals of United Nations.

The Informatics UNPAR students proposed AI-Powered Food Waste Reduction for Restaurants in the preliminary round. This software as designed for various types of restaurants, such as in-hotel restaurants or all-you-can-eat restaurants, to decide how much food to be served. The goal is to minimize food waste. The decision is based on historical data and using Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA).

The proposed software was then shortlisted to be competed in the final round. In the final round, finalists had to implement their proposal within 24 hours non-stop. After which, the finalists presented their developed software in front of the judges. Based on the software developed and the presentation, the team from Informatics UNPAR was awarded the first place of Best Algorithm.

This achievement is not only made UNPAR proud, but as a sign of readiness for Informatics UNPAR in opening the new specialization, i.e. Artificial Intelligence.
